Total football required every player to be able to play in any position. That kind of flexibility and all round expertise is needed in a similar way to really flesh out any pedigree – total genealogy. This talk looks over the range of sources and techniques necessary when creating a total family picture. The talk will be illustrated by showing how this has been done for one family to create a complete history spanning 500 years, and how that piece of total genealogy is now being openly shared.
Ian has been a Zoologist, Information Engineer, business management consultant and business excellence assessor. He has a Masters degree in Genealogical studies and is a tutor on the Masters programme at the University of Strathclyde. He undertakes occasional professional assignments and is Chairman of the Register of Qualified Genealogists.
He researches his own Scottish family and has a book on one branch, the Alexanders, that even gained the Bruce Henderson Award for family history writing. He is the chronicler of the Mewburn family of North Yorkshire and Durham and maintains a one-name study for them.
