A simple birth certificate may be the first record we look at in tracing our family tree and we soon go on to collect them in great numbers together with records of marriages and deaths for many of our ancestors. But do we really understand these pieces of paper,  and the rules and processes that created them ? This talk by a former registrar, will look at interpreting the sometimes complex and hidden meanings of the wording on these most basic of family history records . (45mins)
