I am a retired Police Inspector and author of four books on the Black Country, with a fifth likely to be out by April 2015. I edit the magazine and website for the Black Country Society, which has about 1400 members. We have existed since 1967, in response to a perceived threat to the identity of our region. I now work part-time for the Office for National Statistics and much of my spare time is spent researching Black Country history and preserving the mass of information that has been written about the region over the last three centuries.
