This week, we’re pleased to announce that The National Archives’ workshops sessions are now available to book as part of The Society of Genealogists’ Workshop Programme. Always popular, these workshops are led by respected speakers from The National Archives who usually run these sessions to a sell-out audience.
On Friday the 24th, Janet Dempsey will be helping you find your seafaring ancestors who sailed the seven seas between 1856 -1918; a time of obscurity when the records of individual seamen were not kept by the Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen. And Mark Pearsall will be exploring ‘The Land Tax [from] 1692 – 1963’ and looking at the various documentation associated with this taxation which can be an invaluable research resource for family historians.
On Saturday 25th, you can attend William Spencer’s workshop on the ‘Records of Service of the RFC, RNAS and RAF’. William will explore how the amalgamation of two services into one can often cause problems when searching for high-flying forebears and he will teach you how to overcome your research barriers. And the final talk with Audrey Collins will teach you how to use The National Archives’ new ‘Discovery’ service; the exciting new system which will make finding your ancestors in The National Archives Collection easier and clearer than ever before.
If you're interested in reserving tickets for any of these workshops, you can do so when you book your tickets for the show. Please note that you can book up to two workshops per standard ticket. If you’ve already ordered your tickets for the show, don’t worry you haven’t missed out! Tickets for all workshops are available on the day on a first come, first served basis.

Please note, as well as the Society of Genealogists Workshop Programme, there are further talks offered within the DNA area, in the Ancestry.co.uk Academy and on The Genealogist.co.uk stand. These are non ticketed and run on a 'drop in' basis. Details of these will be published at a later date.
Richard Madeley will be appearing at the show on Sunday...
