Mike Sharpe

Mike Sharpe is a professional genealogist, writer and lecturer specialising in the local and family history of Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. He runs Writing the Past, a family history research and writing service, and is a member of the Society of Genealogists and several family and local history societies. His recent book, Tracing Your Birmingham Ancestors is published by Pen & Sword. Mike was born in Birmingham and has traced his roots there back to 1750, long before the influxes of the Industrial Revolution, making him a true ‘Brummie’.

Sarah Paterson

Sarah Paterson is the author of Tracing Your Family History: Army and edited the other books in this Imperial War Museum series. Tracing Your Prisoner of War Ancestors: The First World War was published in 2012, and she is working on a companion volume for the Second World War.  She has extensive experience of working with military family history, and a wide range of interests in this field, including the role of women and military families.

Liz Palmer

Liz Palmer is a freelance genealogist and heritage researcher at Greenhill Genealogy in Birmingham. She had nearly 10 years’ experience working within Birmingham Archives and Heritage at the Library of Birmingham and whilst there gained a Post-graduate Diploma in Genealogical Studies from the University of Strathclyde. Ruth Paley

Ruth Paley studies the social history of the law – the ways in which law and social history interact.  She has recently edited the 5 volume History of the House of Lords 1660-1715.

She still hopes to find the true parentage of her grandfather, who was informally adopted at the end of the 19th century.

Sue Mitchell (nee Swalwell)

Sue has been researching her family tree for the best part of 35 years and has established a registered One Name Study for her main surname interest, i.e. Swalwell. Her 2xG Grandfather was Lot Swalwell (b1829-d1921) & it was him that started her on this pursuit of other Lot Swalwell’s around the world.
